Detroit Library and DIA Study
study of circulation between Wayne State, Detroit Public Library and the DIA. the existing sites of the library and museum push the pedestrians out to the perimeter of the respective sites in a typical beaux arts or suburban solution. this study suggests a series of plazas at the building faces for a more engaging relationship between the buildings and the public.
additionally, a circulation path through the wing(s) of the library provide a more direct relationship between the university, library and museum.
note: all renderings and sketches are simply meant to highlight very general concepts.
dignitary drive at back of museum (inset photo below) is a foreboding face to the university. rendering illustrates what this may look like if replaced with a plaza. the rear addition of library removed, retail taking over the first floor of the south wing and a hole punched through the first floor to create a true connection between university, library and museum.
