Healthy Kidz Boarding House - Detroit
renovation of existing residence in detroit to provide temporary housing for eight teenagers. the design solution provided numerous spaces, indoor and outdoor, to allow various opportunities for the guests to find personal space. indoor spaces include a sitting room, living room, study room and tv room. outdoor opportunities included a second level deck out back, a first level deck out back, a wrap-around front porch, a front yard gathering space, a backyard space and a protected dining/gathering space under an extended garage roof.
existing brick facade was created from former brick roads which are not ideal for wall construction due to a lack of binding perforations or indents. they are, however, ideal for ground surfaces. the design solution proposed reusing these bricks as patio surfaces and as a double wythe wall around the backyard.
although, the proposal for the actual house appearance is very ordinary, the goal of this project was to remain economical and provide quality living spaces.
project design provided pro-bono
